Since I've been home, I've gotten a chance to do some reading (between laundry and naps). I've rediscovered some of my favorite authors and added some new ones to the list.
Mysteries are my favorite:
- Dorothy L. Sayers- I discovered Lord Peter through the BBC produced series on "Mystery!". Simply wonderful mysteries!
- Margery Allingham- I can't really describe what I like about Albert Campion, but these mysteries are thoroughly enjoyable.
- Jill Churchill- I first discovered her Jane Jeffry's series and felt like I'd re-entered my own youth. Jane is the type of mom that I want to be. Of course, the Grace and Favor series is wonderful, too. It is more like the older British writers that I have always enjoyed.
- Lilian Jackson Braun- I'm not a big cat person, but the small town life provides some wonderful characters.
Other favorite authors include:
- Jane Austen- Although all of her books are good, simply put, "Pride and Prejudice" is my favorite book of all time.
- Madeleine L'Engle- Her books intrigued me when I was young and fascinated by science. Many of them contain awkward girls who have much to look forward to as adults. (A message that I found to be comforting as a young girl, and true as an adult.)
- Simon Hawke- His Time Wars series were filled with remarkably accurate glimpses of history, while playing with an interesting sci-fi concept.
Before I became a stay-at-home mom, I was a corporate trainer for the Cintas Corporation. My specialty was online/distance learning. Below is a link to one of my favorite resources.
